Letter's to Andrew # who knows.

Andrew's Rebuttal

By Morgan
I have to break this up so that it easy to respond to your questions one at a time.

1a. Interesting that you seem to be the first person that considers special revelation on par with God's holy scriptures, essentially rendering the canon still open.
1m. No it does not. The Canon of Scripture is closed. I do not use Special Revelation in any of my doctrinal proofs. Nor do I use experience. And I have made it perfectly clear in the last post. “If X then Y arguments is a separate argument. If you wish to convince me then that is a new post.”

2a. Even many continuationists would NEVER say that, but then again this isn't the first time I've heard you espouse beliefs no one else holds.

2m. I don't know the Continuationists. You can't shame me with continuationist because I don't know them. I know scripture(at least in this case)
3a. If God speaking to people is the same as scripture, then why do we need the bible? Why not just let God speak to everyone?
3m. “Jesus Loves this I know because the of what.” GOD doesn't love everyone. GOD doesn't accept everyone. There are smart, better, and more generous people in hell today then me. GOD does hate.(Malachi 1:3; Romans 9:13) There is nothing about me that would ingender(MS) love above another. So how do I know that I am personally loved? Personal Revelation. As for the Bible it is the truth. It is to be meditated on and it sets people free from non-willful deception. It does not cast out evil. It does not save. GOD saves.

4a.As for your argument that scripture never says the gifts of the spirit have ceased, I would ask you to please show me where it says the have continued and are for today. Please do not use the first two passages you quoted above either because neither one are even close to making a case for the canon to remain open.
4m. The gifts do not constitute the canon being open first of all. The Canon is Closed because there are no more Apostles. We do not believe because of the Miracles or on the miracles or by inference from the miricules. No we believe because He commands us to believe and with force over takes us. We could have every prophet who ever lived performing every miracles they ever did and still people would not turn from their ways. “"Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.” Luke 10
You don't get to say those are legitimate points, those are not legitimate points, unless you prove it so. You are not Barrak Obama. You don't get to play and ref. They are still in play. They are still instructional when Christ spoke on this earth as they are today. The Bible is fully relevant today as it was when it was written.
5a. I base my understanding that special gifts have ceased, not on one specific verse saying so
5b. Because there is no verse saying so. Because someone told you so. Because you don't see them for yourself. Because your teachers took on the mantel of authority and if they are unworthy to get the KINGDOM of GOD at least they can get the respect before men.

6a., but rather on an overview and understanding of the purpose of the gifts shown in scripture. When properly understood that the gifts of that time served a specific purpose (to confer and establish the authority of the apostles and essentially the church) then now we see they are no longer needed.
6m. Apostolic Gifts did not establish authority. There is no where that it did. Mark 9:38 “Teacher," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us."

7a.Remember, they did not have the complete canon as we do now. Well I guess that point is lost on you since you deem the canon incomplete.
7m. I reminded you of that they did not have the complete canon in the last post. Don't get snippy on me with my own point.

8a.Anyway, I could give much more specific examples on the specific purposes of specific gifts, but time and space limit me.
8m. You have me Zero example.

But here Are my examples. Off the top of my head.

9M.Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,[a] and of faith in God, 2instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-2

Elementary teaching...the laying on of hands...

10M. "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”
According to your logic the visions have yet to be seen so the canon is still open. “ Interesting that you seem to be the first person that considers special revelation on par with God's holy scriptures, essentially rendering the canon still open”

11M. my first piece of scriptural evidence you want to throw out.
12M. My second piece of scriptural evidence you want to throw out.

  1. your arguments and this entire post is extremely convoluted so it's a bit hard to respond. However, I will do my best in a future post to explain why I do not believe the gifts given to the early church are still active today. FYI, continuationists are people who believe the gift are still active for the church today. This would include yourself. Morgan McGee is a continuationist.
